What you need to do is modify the picture so that the rider is perfect, and then use a layer mask to hide the sky on the modified layers. That way, the ride/foreground are brightened up, but the sky is left in its original colour.

I've just come home from an XC ride up Corstorphine Woods. I Found That Drop! It looks quite scary from the top, and I can't wait to give it a go when I get my P2 fixed.
